I'm trying to figure out a better way to create reporting trees and noticed the SI metadata stores the trees as a .tre file. I guessed it was an xml file so opened it in visual studio, which worked, but I get a message that there are inconsistent line endings.
I don't know enough about xml or Visual Studio to know what that means. And it doesn't look particularly convenient to edit in VS.
So I tried to import the tre file into Excel. That is where I got the error message saying the problem is line 4 position 1.
Is a pipe symbol not a valid character in XML?
Any suggestions about an easier way to build a reporting tree than from within the SI application?

I use a program called Notepad ++
It allows you to edit the .tre files.
You can see how the exiting trees are defined. You can copy and paste the sections and then just change the GL Account.
