Can you now distribute reports using authenticated SMTP (like with office 365)?  If so, how?

Hi Stefan

Do you have a desktop install of 365 or is it the full cloud version?

Hi Tech

I presume it is the full cloud version.  This is on the Sage server and there is no office installation.

Hi Stefan.

Did you resolve this.  If not can you provide some more details on what you're trying to do.  How are you running your reports out?

Hi Peter

This has not been resolved yet.  I need to distribute reports with an office365 account.  This uses authenticated SMTP.

Are you running your reports out to Excel?

No.  I am using the SMTP add-in in report manager.

Hi Stefan.

Sorry for the delayed response here.  The SMTP add-in only supports unauthenticated SMTP.  So you would need to find a public SMTP server if you wanted to use it.

For authenticated SMTP you need to use the Distribution Options in a report once run out.

In both these cases the report needs to be rendered to Excel and I'm not sure then how your reports are running out if you say there is no Excel installed.

Hi

A public SMTP server will not authenticate the e-mail address(Office365) that we want the report to be send from.

Then you'll need to look at the Distribution Options.

Hi Peter, I am confused by your statement to use the distribution options in a report once they are run out.

I'm at the stage of testing my first distributed report. I've added the information in run add-ins....but I have no idea where you would configure the information necessary to provide the authenication protocol.   can you point me in the right direction to understand your comment.

Hi Jim.

There are two options to distribute reports via email in Sage Intelligence.  One is the MailSMTP add-in that you add to a report in the Report Manager, the other is setting up distribution using the Distribution Options under BI Tools once a report is run out.  The MailSMTP add-in is non-authenticated whereas with the Distribution Options you can specify authentication.  To see this, run out a report to Excel, on the ribbon select BI Tools and then Distribution Settings, then check the option Use SMTP/Exchange Server.  This is the preferred method to distribute reports.  You can find further information on the different Distribution options in your help file.

Hi Stefan,

This doesn't meet your requirements exactly but you can configure Office 365 to allow you to send unauthenticated emails via SMTP. I'm not sure what your end goal needs to be but that *may* work. The key is to configure the sending IP address within your Office 365 tenant and then use the correct SMPT server settings. The details are all available from Microsoft here: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/how-to-set-up-a-multifunct.... I believe you'd want to look at option 2 if that's a potential solution for you.
